Title: Brillant
Review: une comédie décalée sur la communication possible entre ciel et terre…un régal de bout en bout !Vous verrez le personnage « décédé par erreur » tandis que les personnages du film ne le verront plus, si ce n’est l’envoyé Claude Rains….

Review: De l’humour, du rêve, de la tendresse, de l’émotion..Mention spéciale à « Corkle » dans la scène délirante où il va rejoindre Robert Montgomery – invisible – qui lui parle et qu’il ne voit pas.A voir et à revoir plusieurs fois avec toujours le même plaisir.

Title: comédie fantastique
Review: Une comédie fantastique très proche de « Le Ciel peut attendre » (version Lubitsch ou Beatty). Clairement, le film appartient au même genre puisque le film raconte l’histoire d’un boxeur mort par erreur qui revient sur terre dans la peau d’un financier peu scrupuleux. Le film est très plaisant, parfois drôle, même si sa « morale philosophique » est plus limitée que chez Lubitsch. Le film est certes peu connu en France, mais bénéficie d’une très grande réputation aux USA, le dictionnaire de Maltin lui accordant même la note maximale. En vf et en vost français notamment.

Review: Wonderful fantasy tale, beautifully shot, acted and directed. No wonder it was nominated for seven Academy Awards (won two) and inspired two remakes, (the equally funny & enchanting HEAVEN CAN WAIT and the 2001 Chris Rock version, DOWN TO EARTH). Robert Montgomery plays Joe Pendelton, and the lovely Evelyn Keyes co-stars as his beautiful love interest, Betty Logan. The marvelous Claude (THE INVISIBLE MAN) Rains and a perpetually perturbed Edward Everett Horton (the « Fractured Fairy Tales » narrator guy) play the wise and all-knowing Mr. Jordon and his first-day-on-the-job apprentice angel. Both are perfect in their respective roles. James Gleason plays Max Corkle, Joe’s understandably confused boxing trainer. The film has a timeless quality to it due to the enchanting nature of the story. Yes, the dialogue is dated and somewhat lumbering but even that can’t tarnish the shining heart of this feel good picture. My wife actually prefers this original version over HEAVEN CAN WAIT, while I like the Warren Beatty remake better, (but that’s probably due to the fact that I saw that version first). Truth be told they are BOTH very good films and equally entertaining in their own way.THE DVD: The home video presentation of HERE COMES MR. JORDAN looks very nice. The picture is sharp & clean and the soundmix is steady & level with no warbling that sometimes occurs on audio tracks of older films. No hissing, cracks or fading, either. Sadly, this is a bare bones release with no extras of any kind, although it does have a separate French audio tack and is also subtitled in English, French and Spanish. HERE COMES MR. JORDAN is a terrifically charming and entertaining motion picture, more than worthy of adding to your home video collection – especially if you’re a fan of older films, fantasy-type movies or enjoyed the 1979 remake, HEAVEN CAN WAIT and are curious about its origins. I whole-heartedly recommend HERE COMES MR. JORDAN with a full 5 STARS.
