Title: Petit film
Review: Le film ne dure que 75 minutes, mais c’est certainement suffisant. Je le voulais surtout pour Sandra Bullock, mais ce n’est pas un de ses meilleurs, loin de là. Intéressant pour les aspects de la vie et les problèmes des habitants d’Amazonie. Mais petit film quand même. Date: 1993.

Title: Un petit film de série B
Review: Présenté comme des aventures trépidantes en Amazonie, le film raconte l’histoire d’un journaliste (Craig Sheffer) qui enquête sur le meurtre d’une personnalité locale qui s’opposait à la déforestation sauvage de sa région. Il sera secondé dans son enquête par une jeune femme (Sandra Bullock) membre bénévole d’une organisation humanitaire.Si l’histoire n’est pas déplaisante à suivre, il s’agit cependant d’un film de série B à petit budget, pas très bien filmé, au scénario parfois bancal et avec de nombreux clichés mais aussi et surtout avec des acteurs fort peu inspirés (surtout Craig Sheffer et même Sandra Bullock).Heureusement que le film ne dure qu’1h18 car la fin manque cruellement de rythme.On avait connu le réalisateur Luis Llosa (les experts – Anaconda) nettement plus inspiré.

Review: As humans ravage Mother Earth for short-sighted monetary gain, it seems that we are all bystanders helplessly watching our planetary home go down for the final count. As Aristotle observed 2500 years ago, « THERE HAS ALWAYS BEEN THE OPPRESSED AND OPPRESSORS, AND THERE ALWAYS WILL BE! » In this film the 1% CLUB is in firm control of everything and everybody, and corruption is rife at all levels, which frankly mirrors politics and society in many countries today. As the inculcating propaganda slogans of contemporary society insidiously indocrtinate the unsuspecting malleable masses that « GREED IS GOOD », « WE ARE OPEN FOR BUSINESS », and « WHAT WE NEED IN GOVERNMENT IS MORE BUSINESSMEN », authentic demcocracy seems to have withered on the vine, much like in this movie! Talk about the Orwellian « Age Of Deceit »–it is alive and well!

Review: Sandra Bullock portrays a very different character in this tense drama based upon reality, than in some of her more hip and comedic roles. With her characteristic poise and beauty, she portrays Alyssa Rothman, an American working for a group of activists attempting to save the Rainforest from over exploitation by ruthless organisations, aided by corrupt Police.Embroiled in the attempt to prevent dweller’s homes and crops being burnt as development increases, and protect them from violence, a young American Photographer and journalist is imprisoned. Played admirably by Craig Sheffer, RJ, is imprisoned, but released through the efforts of Alyssa. They are assisted by Ataninde a Bolivian Indian (Juan Fernandez)who at first appears hostile, but helps them escape an ambush, and again from illegal execution by the corrupt Police chief.During a brief respite in an Amazonian village, Alyssa and RJ fall in love, and there is a rather beautiful physical love sequence set to romantic and rythmical music.But-this is not all happy endings, and a wounded Alyssa, dies on the small water aeroplane rescuing them, and Ataninde, trying to protect his people, is killed helping them escape by a sniper who uses a crossbow with Indian style darts, which he has used to commit several murders and implicate the Amazonian Peoples.Considering the 75 minutes running time, this film directed by Luis Llosa, and producer Roger Corman, achieves an epic character. The music by Roy J Ravio conjours up the atmosphere and underpins the action very dynamically. The film tells us that an amazing 70,000 acres of Rainforest can be felled and burnt daily, with incalcuable results for the Planetary ecology.This is a great film, romantic, tragic, sensitive, and poignant.
