Title: Un film qui n’apporte rien de plus à ce genre (films fantastiques se basant plus sur l’ambiance que sur le steak haché sanglant)
Review: La présence de Val Kilmer au générique ne présage rien bon (cet excellent acteur ne vit plus que sur ses castings prestigieux du siècle dernier et, faute de grands succès actuels, ne tourne que dans des films appelés à sortir directement en vidéo ou des téléfilms). De toutes façons, il n’est présent que dans très peu de scènes à l’écran, n’étant dans doute là que pour avoir son nom au générique et toucher son cachet.Un film fantastique qui commence par une introduction classique (nuit d’orage, meurtre d’une famille dans le passé) et qui, après 15 minutes pour présenter les personnages, devient typique de ce genre d’ambiance (groupe d’individus obligé de s’abriter après un accident de voiture, nuit et orage omniprésents, maison isolée avec un propriétaire inquiétant, pas de réseau téléphonique, bruits étranges, rires et cris d’enfants venant de nulle part, apparitions de fantômes qui donnent une impression de déjà-vu, brouillard dans la forêt…).On est à des années-lumière du cultissime « La maison du Diable » de Robert Wise (1963), ainsi que d’autres chefs-d’œuvre postérieurs du même registre que je n’ai pas le temps de citer.En bref, malgré une fin qui se veut originale mais qui sent aussi le réchauffé, un film plagiat pas très convaincant, aux dialogues creux et assez mal réalisé. Seul point positif: les aiguilles de l’horloge qui reviennent en arrière dans ce film, ne le font pas dans la réalité et ne nous oblige pas à le regarder une deuxième fois.Et dire qu’il est sorti en Blu-ray…

Review: This film starts out with a family who in 1911, are all murdered one stormy night (well it’s always stormy isn’t it?) by their adopted son. We then skip forward 100 years to find a group of people all going on some sort of retreat for various reasons. There is womanising Bill McCormick (a be-ponytailed Val Kilmer) who is trying to rekindle his waning marriage, a doctor and two brothers who are grieving the loss of their mother. Then a mysterious woman appears in the road and the driver attempts to miss her and in so doing they have a crash.Not to worry as the 7th Cavalry turn up in the shape of Jack (Ving Rhames), he tells them the storm is going to be lethal and they had better come to his house to shelter from it. Bill has also sustained a head injury and they can treat him there. Jack then tells them that their mobile/cell phones will not work in this area, so another box is ticked in the `no way to get help’ stakes. Soon they start to see things that have no other explanation than they are ghosts. So this is not a slasher movie if that is what you were looking for. As the storm closes in, the options start running out and the inevitable past starts to catch up with the future.This is actually not a bad film, the acting is all solid enough, Luke Goss as Isaac is showing more and more promise as a reliable actor. Matt Barr as his brother Adam is also one to watch and Ving Rhames is nicely ambiguous which is just how it needs to be played. I did not get any plot holes and the twists occur more than in just the nasty knife work, so that is also appreciated. The thing is it is not very gripping, and that is where its falls down. It does have its moments and the lighting is done superbly to create the most out of the atmosphere, but my mind wandered on more than one occasion. On IMDB it gets a 3.2 out of 10, which is not very good, but as I said this does have its moments and in many respects this is a solid film, but if you are trading on scares and thrills then that is where the effort should have gone, hence my rating, actually a 3.5 would have been fairer but this is really just above being OK. Also a word for Val Kilmer fans he does not get much screen time, but is good value when he does. All in all a film for fright fans who absolutely adore the genre.

Review: Pessimo. Un horror con un buon cast decisamente sprecato, una storia banalissima che fa fatica a coinvolgere (complice una tensione e inquietudine praticamente inesistenti) e anche una gran dose di noia. Il blu-ray include alcuni extra e di positivo viene pure venduto ad un prezzo bassissimo, ma ancora troppo alto. Da evitare.

Review: A group of people on a bus suffer a crash and take shelter in the house of a man who witnessed the accident. But as a storm rises and the group become stranded on the property, strange and dangerous events being to occur, threatening all of their lives.This is a terribly dull and unoriginal film that offers no scares and no suspense. There are some well known actors who seem to have phoned in their performances in order to pick up their cheque. But it’s not all their fault as they have absolutely nothing to work with. Terrible story, awful dialogue and a very dark film, 90% of which is accompanied by thunder and lightning effects due to the supposed storm. A waste of everyone’s time all round, me included. 1.5 stars.
