A 51 ans, le veuf Harvey Howard décide de reprendre ses études. Il refuse tout traitement de faveur et insiste pour partager le même dortoir que les autres étudiants. Malgré la différence d’âge, il participe aux mêmes activités scolaires, culturelles, sportives que les autres étudiants. Tout se gâte lorsqu’il tombe amoureux de Mademoiselle Gauthier, son professeur de français : en effet, Harvey Howard n’envisage pas une seule seconde de se remarier.

Review: This is nothing more than a Class A version of the Avalon-Funicelli Beach Party fliks of the early ‘60s. The plot is simple: a middle-aged millionaire decides to get a College education and, in the process, gets tangled up in student high jinks. The lead is played by legendary Bing Crosby who wisely (as he produced the film) cast the middle-aged and lovely French actress Nicole Maurey as his romantic interest thus leaving the young romance stuff to be split among the then “promising future stars” at 20th Century (Fabian, Richard Beymer, Tuesday Weld and Yvonne Craig – the latter becoming the future TV Batgirl).It is all quite innocent with a lot of Blake Edwards sight-gags and a bouncy pace to go with Henry Mancini’s irresistible and bouncy score. This film may not be up there with Edwards’ Breakfast nor Pink Panther classics, but it’s a lot better than his Operation Petticoat or Perfect Furlough.The blu-ray release has completely gotten rid of all of the annoying graininess produced by all of those wipe opticals that were employed for the many time transitions. Therefore the film looks a hundred percent better than it did on its first theatrical release.If you like an upbeat good time that’s fit for the entire family, you could do no better, but if you prefer raunch, better skip this one. The only pity is the stiff Twilight Time price tag with (as yet) no regular DVD option.

Review: ビング・クロスビー晩年の主演作品。ビングは『我が道を往く』（1944）でオスカーを取ったが、50年代に入って『喝采』(1954)では、マーロン・ブランド(『波止場』)とオスカーを競って敗れた。ビングは『フォンダやスチュワートは作品に恵まれて、映画で順調に主演を続けている』と言って、自分もと映画での主演に執念を燃やし続けた。しかし唄と同じようにはいかなかった。59年の『ひとこと言って』はデビー・レイノルズとロバート・ワグナーを、60年の本作はチューズディ・ウェルドとファビアンを共演者に迎えて、ヤング・ジェネレーションへのマーケティングも怠らずに製作されたが大ヒットとはいかなかった。特に『ひとこと～』は評判自体が芳しくなく、１度もビデオ化されなかった(但しフランク・デヴォルのサントラは最高の出来)。本作はビデオ化されただけまだ良し、としなければならないだろう。我が国では確か未公開で、TVでも大昔に短縮版が関西で『ゲバルト・パパ奮戦記』なるタイトルで放映された以外には、ほとんど放映実績も無いのではないか。確かに見ていると、　①当時57歳(今で言うと60代後半か70位だろうか)のビングは、さすがに年取って見えること。また自分に年齢的に近い共演者がほとんど居らず、ビングもリラックス出来なかったのではないか　②品格に欠ける作品を撮るブレーク・エドワーズを監督に起用したが、ビングのプロダクションとプロデューサーのチャールズ・ブラケット(長年ビリー・ワイルダーと組んでいた)が、もしかしたらそんなエドワーズを抑え込んで、好きにはさせなかったのではないのか。よって60年代に入る直前にしてはフレッシュさに欠けて中途半端な作品になったのではないかと感じた。よって我が国では、過去も現在もだが将来もビデオ化されることは無いだろうし、何年前かに出た海外盤Blu-rayも直ぐに入手困難になっており、このフランス盤DVDが唯一のソフトである。そのため、本盤はヨーロッパのTV規格PAL仕様であり、アメリカや日本のNTSC規格とは異なるため、私のようにリージョンフリーのプレーヤーで観るか、パソコンで観るしかないが、余程のクロスビー・ファン以外は無理してまで観るほどの作品では無い事を申し添えておこう。
