Title: Joyeuse comédie, romantique et sentimentale
Review: C’est une comédie réjouissante qu’on doit absolument voir. Certaines scènes sont devenues de grands classiques. Le succès du film tient à la découverte de deux jeunes gens de tout ce qui est nécessaire pour bâtir une relation profonde, alors que chacun est bouffi de clichés et de préjugés. Un peu daté maintenant par le changement d’époque. Ce n’est pas gênant, la réalisation est très réussie. Partant sur un ton comique et une indifférence réciproque entre les deux personnages, l’évolution de chacun est parfaitement montrée et au cours de rencontres successives, on comprend pourquoi ils ont des difficultés pour s’entendre. Le spectateur est ici renvoyé à sa propre image et à des scènes qu’il a joué dans sa propre vie. On est finalement très heureux qu’ils parviennent à ressentir ce besoin intense chacun l’un de l’autre. Ce film va bien avec Nuits Blanches à Seattle.

Title: La comédie romantique « presque » parfaite !
Review: Une comédie douce-amer, des dialogues jubilatoires, un Billy Cristal drôle et caustique, une Meg Ryan enjouée, NY en tableau de fond … le film coche toutes les cases de la comédie romantique « Allénienne ».Pour résumer le film : ces deux là, ils ne peuvent pas s’entendre … et pourtant, ils vont finir ensemble. D’un classicisme absolu, Quand Harry rencontre Sally est probablement la comédie romantique américaine la plus célèbre de toute l’histoire du cinéme et elle n’a pas « presque » pas vieillit. Le couple star Meg Ryan-Billy Cristal fait des merveilles et est bien épaulé par les regrettés Carrie Fisher et Bruno Kirby qui forment le couple d’amis et confidents typique de ce genre de comédie. Mais Quand Harry rencontre Sally c’est aussi et surtout un film 100% Rob Reiner, un grand réalisateur tellement sous estimé et un vrai « auteur ». Harry c’est Billy Cristal mais c’est aussi et beaucoup Rob Reiner (et un peu du Woody Allen aussi), tandis que Sally c’est entièrement Meg Ryan … elle est si craquante dans ce film. Actrice star des années 90, on se demande comment elle a pu si mal « tourner » dans les années 2000 … cette carrière ruinée par l’abus du bistouris, quel dommage!Bref, le film fourmille d’idées de mise en scène et de situations cocasses, la réalisation et l’écriture de Rob Reiner (bien épaulé par la scénariste Nora Ephron) est irréprochable. Rob Reiner + Billy Cristal + Meg Ryan, c’est vraiment la formule miracle. L’alchimie parfaite entre les 2 acteurs couplé à l’énergie du chef d’orchestre a accouché de la comédie romantique « presque » parfaite, on pourrait juste lui reprocher « d’être un peu trop beau pour être vraie ».

Title: Un grand classique
Review: Sorti à la fin des années 80, Quand Harry rencontre Sally est devenu culte et on comprend pourquoi… L’alchimie entre Billy Cristal et Meg Ryan (ah, Meg Ryan…) est parfaite, et cette histoire d’amitié-amour est d’une justesse et d’une sensibilité à tomber avec des dialogues qui font mouche et beaucoup d’humour. La musique jazz de Harry Connick Junior réhausse encore l’ensemble. Seul petit bémol, plus dans la forme que le fond, les bonus sont un peu chiches et l’image Blu-Ray pas sidérante. Mais ce film mérite vraiment de figurer dans n’importe quelle blu-rayteque tant il a marqué son époque. On n’a jamais fait mieux depuis à mon sens dans le genre…

Review: By now, all that needs to be said about this movie has been said.What we have here is early Meg Ryan, who shows her tremendous acting and comedic talent – a portent of things to come. We also have the young Billy Crystal at his finest. The supporting caste is made up of Carrie Fisher – less the Star Wars fright wig and a relatively unknown – at least to me – Bruno Kirby.Kirby and Fisher provide the proper foils/sidekicks to Ryan and Crystal. This movie was brilliantly directed by Rob Reiner who, it seems, was working out relationship issues while directing this film. Written by Nora Ephron – who is not on a socio-political crusade in this screenplay – the script has great moments written in with room enough for the cast to improvise. Rob Reiner was very much able to allow the cast the freedom to improvise and make the storyline sing!The interspersing of the « personal romance » stories was a great touch (can’t remember who thought of it), but it kept the film from getting too worrisome. Crystal’s character – Harry – sometimes was a bit over-the-top with the gloom and doom schtick. Ryan’s Sally was the perfect foil and friend to Harry until she has her ultimate crisis and they violate the rules of the friendship. How they work it out is truly romance gold and you wish that they could truly live happily ever after. This is one of the great things about this movie – we actually _care_ about the characters and become involved with their inner conflicts – even if they do seem rather silly at times.Of course there is one of the most memorable of all scenes in the diner when Harry and Sally are disagreeing about whether women fake certain actions during the dating game. This is one of Cinema’s most brilliant moments. I cannot recall whose idea this scene was. I recall that it was something that Rob Reiner and Nora Ephron disagreed about. Fortunately for the film, Ephron’s viewpoint/perspective prevailed and this bit of movie gold was preserved for posterity.The Collector’s Edition DVD is filled with good extras – a « making off, » interviews with Reiner & Ephron and other goodies that make it a worthwhile purchase. As far as I could tell, the mastering for this was very good. I did not notice any flaws and the soundtrack was excellent.All in all a very good deal. I see that Amazon now has it on sale for less than I paid for it in April. But if I always waited for the price to go down, I probably would never by a DVD/Blu-ray ever.*Sigh*
