Review: Pour commencer je suis fan des romans !! Je trouver que les films sont super bien et je pense que pour savourer pleinement les deux films il faut avoir en soi ce petit truc décalé !! A savoir aussi que dans les film pour la version français des passages on été supprimé d’où peut être une mauvaise compréhension sur certains points ou a certains niveaux, mais bon rien de méchant dans le fond !! Sinon le détail qui change tout sachant que les films ne sont plus en réédition ni individuellement ni en coffret, c’est que sur la présentation du boitier on distingue clairement les nouvelles jaquettes qui attirent les yeux (avec les effets des lunettes bleu/rouge… et non pas les vieilles aux effets médiévaux) alors que en réalité dans le coffret il y a un mélange des deux genre ce qui gâche le plaisir à mon gout et a ceux des collectionneurs. Je pense donc que la photo de présentation a été refaite sur photoshop ou autre ce qui n’est pas cool !!Bon sinon je recommande de voir les films mais surtout de lire les livres car il sont mieux et que après Night Watch… Day Watch.. il y a aussi Twilight Watch… et aussi Last Watch (pas encore sorti en français) !!

Review: « Nochnoi Dozor » kam im Juli 2004 in die russischen Kinos, brach sofort alle zuvor dagewesenen Rekorde, und ließ « Harry Potter », « Die Rückkehr des Königs » und viele andere Hollywood-Blockbuster weit hinter sich. Schließlich handelte es sich um Russlands quasi-ersten Blockbuster mit richtigen Special Effects. Die allgegenwärtige Werbung, für die der Fernsehsender Channel One verantwortlich war, tat ihr übriges. « Nochnoi Dozor » war ein Ereignis. Beeindruckt von den Einspielergebnissen hatte 20th Century Fox über ihre Indie-Sparte « Fox Searchlight » sich bereits im August die Rechte für den weltweiten Vertrieb sowie für zwei Fortsetzungen gesichert. Als Ergebnis kam mit einjähriger Verspätung die internationale Version des Films in die Kinos, mit dem internationalen Titel « Night Watch ». Diese Version wurde vom Regisseur zusätzlich bearbeitet, um es dem westlichen Publikum leichter zu machen, den Film zu verstehen.Was soll man nun halten vom Film « Wächter der Nacht »? Abgesehen vom Hype in Russland und dem eher moderaten Ergebnis außerhalb, wenn man den Film für sich alleine betrachtet, kommt er nicht sonderlich gut weg. Der Regisseur versteht sein Handwerk gut, und setzt als routinierter Werbefilmer sehr gekonnt Moskau in Szene. Viele der Tricks sind in der Tat aus der Werbung bekannt, und so erinnert Bekmambetovs Stil bisweilen an Michael Bay. Videoclipartige Slow-Motion und Zeitraffer, gepaart mit Heavy-Metal-Musik und CGI-Special-Effects ‘ das alles sind hier Zutaten. Doch Zutaten für sich machen noch kein ganzes Gericht ‘ und bei « Wächter der Nacht » mangelt es schlicht einfach an der richtigen Balance. Actionlastige Kabumm-Szenen wechseln sich mit langsamen Dialogszenen ab, die den Film teilweise zum Halt bringen. Die vielzitierte Niete, die sich vom Flugzeug löst und fünf Minuten lang durch die Luft wirbelt, mag ein schöner CGI-Effekt sein ‘ aber irgendwie zu ausgedehnt. Charaktere werden eingeführt, und dann « vergessen ». Im großen Ganzen hinterlässt der Film am Ende einen rohen, etwas unfertigen Eindruck. Andererseits hebt sich der Eindruck mit dem zweiten Teil teilweise auf, denn dort werden Charakterbögen, die in Teil eins unfertig hängen bleiben, allesamt aufgelesen und abgeschlossen. Ein weiterer Kritikpunkt ist, dass der Film für Nicht-Buchkenner etwas verwirrend erscheinen mag. Die ineinander verwobenen Storylines: Antons Vergangenheit, Yegor, die Vampirin, Svetlana und der Wirbel ‘ machen es teilweise schwer, dem Geschehen zu folgen, und verlangen viel Aufmerksamkeit ab. Wenn man das Buch kennt, wird man etwas schlauer ‘ ärgert sich aber gegebenenfalls über die Abweichungen von eben jenem Buch ‘ so kommt es zu einem Teufelskreis.Aber es ist nicht alles so schlecht, wie es sich anhört. Auch wenn der Film eine auf den ersten Blick unüberschaubare Anzahl an Charakteren hat, hat der Regisseur beim Casting hervorragendes Händchen bewiesen. Die Darsteller sind allesamt Spitze. Charaktere, die eine kurze Screentime von wenigen Szenen bekommen (wie z.B. der Vampir, Kostyas Vater, gespielt von Schauspielerlegende Valeri Zolotukhin), schaffen es, ein Bild im Kopf zu hinterlassen, das haften bleibt. Von solchen prägnanten Bildern gibt es so einige. Geser (Oscar-Preisträger Vladimir Menshov) am Schreibtisch, der wirkt wie ein Parteikader aus vergangenen Zeiten; Olga (Galina Tyunina), die einerseits eine weise Zauberin in Eulengestalt abgibt, andererseits mit einem modernen Seifenspender ihre Mühe hat. Und natürlich Anton Gorodetsky (Konstantin Khabensky), der schwer zugängliche Hauptcharakter, der oft unsympatisch wirkt, aber dennoch etwas Verletzliches hat, was ihn gleich sympathischer macht.Bekmambetov schafft andererseits, durch Verstärkung der Kontraste, ein glaubhaftes Universum der Wächter zu schaffen. Lukianenkos Vision von den Dozoren ist klassisch magisch ‘ die Anderen wirken wie normale Menschen, nur im Zwielicht offenbaren sie ihr anderes Wesen. Die Lösung des Regisseurs war, starke Bilder zu schaffen, die die Dozore voneinander unterscheiden. So werden in Moskau normale gelb-rote Reparatur-Lastwagen seit 2004 fest mit Gorsvet und der Nachtwache verbunden. Dafür geben sich die Dunklen Anderen wie Banditen oder Promis, die im realen Russland der 90er ohnehin eng verzahnt waren.Die FOX-Version, die für den internationalen Markt erstellt wurde (und die auch der deutschen Kinofassung entspricht), hatte bisher folgende Probleme: einerseits wurde sie im Schnitt und Dialogen erheblich vereinfacht, um das Verständnis der Zuschauer, die mit Lukianenkos Bestseller noch nicht vertraut sind, zu fördern. Unter anderem sind dort zwei Handlungsstränge rausgeflogen, sowie viele kleinere Umschnitte und Neusynchronisationen vorgenommen worden. Andererseits fehlt ein meiner Meinung nach geniales Feature der russischen Version – der finale Rap « Nochnoi Dozor » aus dem Abspann. Dieser postmoderne witzige Rap von Sergei Lukyanenko persönlich fasst die Handlung des Films in 2 Minuten zusammen und entlässt den Zuschauer in einer positiven Stimmung – was man von der FOX-Version nicht so behaupten kann.Diese DVD-Edition ist insofern einzigartig, dass sie als einzige weltweit jenseits der ehemaligen GUS-Staaten nun auch die originale russische Schnittfassung enthält. Allerdings ohne eine Synchro, sondern nur mit deutschen Untertiteln. Insofern macht FOX hier wieder wett, was bei der Bearbeitung und « Verdummung » der deutschen Version passiert ist. Obendrein hat der russische Cut (hier vollmundig als « Director’s Cut » beworben) auch noch DTS-Ton mit an bord. Und zum Anstimmen auf den Sequel, der just zur gleichen Zeit in die Kinos kommt, gibt es als Bonus u.a. die ersten elf Minuten von « Wächter des Tages » auf DVD. Ferner bekommt man noch ein 40-minütiges Making Of und zwei Kommentare – vom Regisseur Timur Bekmambetov und vom Autor der Buchvorlage, Sergej Lukianenko.Diese Rezension wurde in Teilen bereits auf der deutschen « Wächter »-Seite « ImZwielicht.de » veröffentlicht.

Review: There are creatures amongst us, some light and some dark, committed to a truce to end an otherwise catastrophic form of eternal conflict. Enter the Night Watch, the guardians that keep the Dark in check, and the Day Watch, that do the reverse. Both sides await the coming of a prophesized « other » who will choose his prospective side and shift this otherwise eternal variation of static warfare, however, and the time seems to be coming soon. Enter Anton, a seemingly innocuous man with a love he wants to preserve, who is told that his love is pregnant – that the child is not his – and that the only way his love can be preserved is through the death of an innocent. Reluctantly Anton agrees to this but, in the midst of the witchery, the Night Watch comes in and stops the procedure. In the middle of that, Anton finds out that he is what is referred to as one of The Others; that things are happening around him, that he can see things that were previously unseen and do things in conjunction with either the light or the dark, and that he is changed.And the story begins building from there.While the DVD version of the movie isn’t very popular, this is actually a really unique take on the world of the supernatural. Vampirism is explained here, shapeshifters are seen, and some of the strangest clashes between Light/Dark cultures are explored by Anton and the characters around him. This makes for a great story that keeps on keeping on, dragging itself deeper and deeper into a world that seems so alien when setting side-by-side with our own. I liked that; there was a lot of time spent building a world inside the world but there wasn’t a lot of time spent dumbing it down so a viewer could watch it. It simply is the way it is, it has the rules it has, and the « why » isn’t always explained. This, combined with the fact that we see the coming of the other and w also witness how the ripples of one action melds into a forest of other actions, really makes a person watch.As Anton himself says, « curse » isn’t simply a word.The other thing about the movie is the visuals, which are absolutely mindblowing. Some of the things that happen are simply amazing, either by conflict or by the traversing of something called « the gloom, » and then there is the bigger saga that simply looks good while the movie plays out. The whole of the movie looks good, too, from the beginning shots that explain the battle between the forces to series where Anton is simply « looking » at a boy while trying to follow him. Perhaps it was because the movie was Russian or perhaps it was because some people found the format of the tale unappealing – it was more of a chapter than a complete tale, but the chapter was self-contained and told a story all its own – or the unheralded release of the movie made it unappealing. Whatever the reason, this movie should have gotten a lot more acknowledgement than it did because the storyline and the visuals combine to make something grand.Again, this is a really interesting tale and would be good for anyone that wants something different from the obvious stories set to supernatural tones. The one thing to keep in mind is that the disc is double-sided and one side is dubbed and the other side is in Russian (with subtitles). I’m personally a fan of original language movies so I’m glad I noticed the Russian side of the movie, but I could see how this could confuse (and turn people off to the movie). The disc also comes with an extended ending with optional commentary and « sneak peaks » of the sequels.It really is worth the watch – and a bit more.
