Title: en blu ray c’est superbe
Review: en blu ray , les images sont nettes , le son impeccable; c’est un chef d’oeuvre , ce film; des dialogues percutants , une histoire passionnante…en bonus, Jean-Paul Gaultier parle de la mode et du vêtement , et de ce film qui lui a ‘montré ‘ sa voie; j’ai vraiment ,beaucoup apprécié son interview ; c’est super intéressant et il le raconte très bien

Review: Très beau film féministe de Jacques Becker sur la haute couture. Bon DVD. Raymond Rouleau est très convaincant en séducteur pris au piège de l’amour et Micheline Presle séduisante au possible. Incroyable d’avoir pu réaliser un tel film sur le luxe dans les derniers mois de l’occupation allemande. De la grande qualité française où la mode est une métaphore de la création au cinéma

Review: bonjour, un certain plaisir à revoir un film auquel on a participé, c’était sous l’occupation et nous tournions de nuit au studio Francoeur, R. Rouleau avait un caractère épouvantable Dorziat délicieuse, que d’incidents pendant le tournage ! B à V jp S

Review: Von dem Film hatte ich vorher noch nie etwas gehört. In diesem Film von 1944 geht es um einen Modeschöpfer in Paris, der das Brautkleid für die zukünftige Frau seines besten Freundes entwerfen soll. Dabei verliebt er sich in sie. Jacques Becker hat diesen Film mit leichter Hand inszeniert. Er überzeugt heute noch durch seine spritzigen Dialoge. Man bekommt auch einen guten Einblick in die Art und Weise, wie Mode damals gemacht wurde. Da ist der Film dokumentarisch. Die Aufnahmen von Paris sind auch interessant,Die Extras sind sehr liebevoll gemacht. Es gibt ein halbstündiges Interview mit dem Sohn von Becker, in dem man etwas über die Entstehungsgeschichte des Film während des Kriegs erfährt. Jean-Paul Gaultier spricht als Fan und Modemacher auch eine halbe Stunde über den Film. Weiterhin gibt es noch ein zehnminütiges Gespräch mit der Hauptdarstellerin. Klasse. Die Probeaufnahmen und die Restaurierung des Films fand ich jetzt nicht so spannend.Für die Anhänger alter französischer Filme und der Modeindustrie lohnt sich der Film. Eine Entdeckung: Fünf Sterne!

Review: This is a highly enjoyable Women’s Picture, marred only by not being subtitled. The plot is good, within the constraints of its genre (i.e., it is only marginally bonkers), the acting is good and the photography and production values first-rate.This is a romantic melodrama set in the world of Paris high fashion. I won’t go into the plot – you can watch the film for that – but the heroine is torn between having a fling with an exciting cad and loving an honourable, if uninteresting man. The locaton shots of Paris, with very little traffic, are superb. Because of petrol rationing, everyone travels by bike. Apart from that, you’d never know there is a war on, to judge by the way people are behaving. Everyone in this film seems to wear haute couture all the time, even to play table tennis; everyone has servants and big apartments; nobody seems to worry about the rationing of food or clothes. « Gritty realism » it isn’t!Falbalas provides a fascinating historical insight into high fashion during the occupation and immediate post-occupation period (the film was planned before Liberation and filming took place just after Liberation) and before the onset of the New Look. Most of the women’s clothes are, frankly, unflattering (but then, so is much of what you see on the catwalks today, so nothing new there), the hairstyles are really strange, even for the 1940s, and the shoes are the clumpy platforms that inspired Vivienne Westwood (no one fall off their shoes, though!); on the other hand, the men’s suits are to die for. The film is, therefore, a must-see for fashion historians.It is interesting to compare the treatment of the high fashion element in this film with how a US film would have handled it. In Falbalas, the catwalk scene is quite brief, and gives little opportunity for the viewer to gloat over the clothes and get ideas: compare this with the handling of the fashion parades in MGM’s « The Women » (1939) or « Two Girls and a Sailor » (1944), where the camera lingers lovingly on each outfit, allowing female viewers get some ideas for what to wear, and male viewers to ogle the models.So (if you have a smattering of conversational French), sit back and wallow in a glamourous, preposterous film, with a good ending. And prepare to chortle at the clothes.
