Review: Zunächst wusste ich so gar nicht wo diese Story hin will… aber mit zunehmender Dauer des Films hat er mich immer stärker in seinen Bann gezogen. Besonders beeindruckt haben mich die außergewöhnlichen schauspielerischen Leistungen, das exzellente Drehbuch und die Regiearbeit des sympathischen Hauptdarstellers Gerald McCullouch.Die teilweise nicht einfache Geschichte verlangt dem Zuschauer emotional einiges ab. In einer Rezension war zu lesen dass der Handlungsverlauf vorhersehbar und dadurch wenig überraschend sei. Dies kann ich so nicht nachempfinden, da dieses Drama Anfangs wirklich etwas dahin plätschert um dann richtig Fahrt aufzunehmen, mit einer Wendung die ich so nicht erwartet hatte. Die gesamte Geschichte bleibt authentisch und dadurch nachvollziehbar, dies macht die Qualität des Filmes aus. Für mich eine Überraschung und eine klare Empfehlung für Menschen die Blicke in das menschliche Seelenleben werfen wollen. Das der Film nicht synchronisiert ist, also nur mit Untertiteln versehen, tut dem Ganzen keinen Abbruch.

Review: Gerald looking great as always pulls together a superb film. Really emotional entertaining and a great plot. Would be so easy to write spoilers but i avoided a lot of plot clues before i saw it. So pleased i did…watch it..you’ll see what i mean.

Review: Gerald McCullouch poured his heart and soul into DADDY : the Movie, and it shows! Colin McCormack (McCullouch) has it all. An enviable job, all the luxuries a single gay man can enjoy, a best friend of many years, good looks, and irresistible to other gay men. And the young males looking to share his bed line up, number in hand.Stew is Colin’s best friend. Apparently less lucky in the looks and love department, he is nonetheless essential to Colin, being the voice of wisdom and friendship. Kudos must be given here to Gerald McCullouch and Dan Via for portraying a believable, touching and emotional friendship, devoid of the « let’s jump in bed » trap that so many gay movies fall into.Jaime Cepero portrays Tee Bloom, an intelligent and brilliant 22 years old, with whom Colin will fall in love. The young man harbors a dark secret, poisoning his existence, and ultimately Colin’s. The revelations will definitely propel Colin in the dark recesses of hell.An ensemble cast aptly support the trio, led by Richard Riehle, as the boss of Colin, Jay Jackson, and Tamlyn Tomita among others.McCullouch started a Kickstarter campaign, which gave the boost needed to make the original play step from the theater to the cinema. Many of the people involved gave their time to ensure the success of the movie. A real labor of love. And what McCullouch and his teammates made with a shoestring budget is to be seen to be believed.Finely acted, charismatic and believable characters, and a powerful story all contribute to present the future of gay-themed movies, where those movies step out of the closet, and become stories that can be seen and felt by moviegoers of all sexual orientations. DADDY : the Movie makes all of us proud.

Review: I was looking forward to this movie with Gerald McCulloch who I’ve seen in various other films and series. The film qualities are all excellent and the portrayal of life of an aging gay man was well done. I had issues with the central premise of the movie that being « Colin » and his romantic relationship with a young man. Their connection was eventually very far fetched after seeing their rather normal developing relationship.I thought there should have been by far much more attention to Colin and his best friend Stew who lived next door, followed Colin to his city to find work and always being there for Colin to pick up the pieces of his messy relationships. Stew clearly is a man who is in love with his more shallow friend who never « sees » Stew for who he really is.The movie ends with many pieces of the life puzzle missing.
