Review: A comedy by Shakespeare with the two sets of twins, and, and etc…..and made wonderfully clear and genually amusing by this first class production by the RSC……..I have seen this play in several productions (and read the play trying to follow it) for many years…..This production pulls it all together…..Wonderful; entertaining; well done.

Review: I took my 17 year old son to see this at the Globe. It was his first ever visit to the theatre to see Shakespeare. Having studied several of the Bard’s works on paper, I thought it was time to remind him that Shakespeare wrote his plays to entertain the masses. They were supposed to be SEEN by the common man and woman. I must say it was an absolute joy to watch him watching this production. The general silliness and slapstick delighted him and I could see him realise that Shakespeare was meant to be just like this. Audience participation and spectacle. Yes, his tragedies were pretty good too but the Comedy of Errors is all about laughter and merriment, confusion and mistaken identity, indignation and identity. My son’s words as the confusion was unravelled at the climax, ‘Thank God for that’. I bought this for him as a birthday reminder of his first trip to the Globe and I know it will not be our only one (trip to the Globe or Globe production DVD).

Review: Eine eher unbekannte Komödie Shakespeares, die vom London Globe so inszeniert wurde, wie sie gemeint ist: als alberne und kurzweilige Verwechslungsposse, deren Helden trotzdem in abgründig tragische, existenzielle Krisen getrieben werden. Money makes the world go around, auch zu des Altmeisters Zeiten. Die Spieler beweisen viel Gespür für Timing und Situationskomik: allein die wohl etwa zehnminütige Slapstick-Nummer zu Beginn des Stückes, als der Diener Dromio vor dem Haus Wäsche abnehmen will, ist ein Genuss. So würde Shakespeare sein Stück sicher selbst gern inszeniert sehen. Dazu handgemachte Musik und ein gut aufgelegtes Publikum – dieser Theaterabend auf DVD ist jeden Cent wert, auch wenn es keine deutsche Tonspur gibt.© Steffen Roye

Review: This silly play needs energy and joy to work, but it also needs actors who can make the complex plot clear to us, and at least suggest that these are real people, caught up in a mad world, not cartoon characters. This fast-paced production delivers the laughs and never flags. Wonderful physical comedy, terrific costumes, fine acting.

Review: Minimal set, very historically correct, and funny. The cast is well chosen, the twins, through costuming and makeup, strongly resemble each other, but can be told apart.
