Title: une magnifique comédie d’été
Review: une superbe comédie aussi bien pour les décors,les acteurs ou le scénario.tout commence par une entrée en matière amusante: un échange de vêtements dans un avion, un voyage en train et enfin l’arrivée dans une île au sud de l’italie pendant ce voyage on voit le décalage entre l’américain stréssé, préssé, perdu dans un monde où les gens prennent le temps de vivre.C’est la rencontre entre une anglaise émervéillée par un pays magnifique, rempli de soleil et de gens heureux et cet américain que tout énerve.une rencontre qui n’aurai jamais dut être entre 2 personnes qui viennent cherchés leurs parent disparus, un père pour l’américain et une mère pour l’anglaise, des parents morts ensemble dans un tragique accident de voiture pendant leurs vacances, c’est la découverte pour l’américain bien pensant d’une liaison qui durait depuis 15 ans, une liaison de vacance entre son père et la mère de l’anglaise.c’est la rencontre détonnante entre un goujat bien pensant de la côte est et une anglaise que rien n’étonne avec en arrière fond un magnifique hotel et des seconds rôles extraordinaires: un directeur d’hotel que rien ne surprend, un valet d’étage maître chanteur et un attaché d’ambassade qui à un relent de cia.que ce soit pour l’image, la musique ou le jeux des acteurs c’est un DVD à garder précieusement dans sa collection

Title: Billy Wilder & Jack Lemmon
Review: One of Billy Wilder’s last, and in my opinion much overlooked films; he made 3 more. Jack Lemmon plays, not surprisingly, a rather stiff necked son of a wealthy American who has died during his latest yearly « spa visit » to the Naples area, Italy. Jack has to go and reclaim the body, which naturally can’t off go smoothly. I find myself chuckling away during the many mishaps that occur trying to complete this task. This could have been a film leaving you with a little of a bad taste in your mouth, but as usual Wilder’s clever script and direction, and Lemmon’s acting, make this a very entertaining film. What a pity it is that UK people have to import this from either US/Canada, France, Germany or the Czech Republic.

Title: Bouffée d’air marin
Review: Une belle comédie signée Billy Wilder, de 1972, que l’on traverse en douceur, sans nous faire pas rire aux éclats, et des scènes un peu bavardes au caractère théâtral. Le film débute à peine que la toile de fond est déjà posée avec une scène muette de 5 minutes, et l’échange d’habits entre 2 passagers, devant les yeux ébahis des autres voyageurs et de l’équipage. Wendell Ambruster, part en catastrophe rapatrier le corps de son père , mort accidentellement dans un accident lors de ses vacances en Italie, à Ischia plus précisément. Et l’atmosphère mélancolique de l’histoire semble peu propice à la comédie…et pourtant! Un vaudeville fou et solaire, que sous des teintes de mélancolie devient intimiste, et sous les rires et des larmes, on retrouve la confrontation d’une Amérique simple et d’une Europe complexe et les coups des pieds de Wilder à sa terre d’adoption et au monde bien-pensant américain.WA fait la connaissance de Pamela Pigott dans le train, et aussitôt il commence à la détester, et on est dans terrain romantique prévisible, sachant que WA va fondre sur Pamela. Il s’avère que PP est la fille de la femme qui est décédé avec Ambruster Sr, dont elle était l’ amant depuis 10 ans. On assiste à des scènes d’anthologie, comme celle de la reconnaissance des dépouilles de 2 parents, et le protocole des papiers et des signatures, et ce qui ressemble à un mariage post mortem , avec le « Je le jure » des enfants de 2 amants, lors de la reconnaissance des corps, comme affirmant une volonté de les unir dans leur tombe par les liens du mariage.Juliet Mills a pris du poids pour interpréter le rôle de Pamela, et on parle souvent dans le film du complexe de son surpoids. Mais son allure évolue dans le film , et elle devient de plus en plus sexy, à mesure que les sentiments de WA envers elle se transforment; et lui devient peu à peu le double de son père, portant d’abord ses habits. L’histoire évolue vers un remake de cette tranche de vie d’un mois chaque année que leurs parents y ont vécu; d’abord en revivant leurs promenades, leurs repas , baigné par le soleil radieux de l’île d’Ischia, et sous un air de mandoline .Une interprétation remarquable est celle de Clive Revill(Des sourires et des armes, l’épisode de Columbo), l’acteur néo-zélandais,à la ductilité étonnante. Il joue le Maître d’hôtel confident, qui sauve toutes les situations , dont l’intervention est un point de repère qui fait avancer l’action.Un film que l’on aime et un casting très appréciable.

Review: Un film extraordinaire qui nous fait vivre dans le sud de l’Italie, à une é »poque vintage, mais où on sent le plaisir de vivre.On sentirait presque les odeurs en regardant le film, tant les images sont agréables.Nous avons tous apprécié.

Review: Ce film de Billy Wilder n’a pas pris une seule ride.malgré sa longueur (plus de 2 heures, énorme pour l’époque), on ne voit vraiment pas le temps passer. A voir et à revoir sans aucun risque de de s’en lasser.

Review: What does « Avanti! » have in common with Sabrina and Vertigo (Collector’s Edition)? The three plays were written by the same author: Samuel Taylor.You might like to see this movie several times, because it plays on several levels.Level 1: A busy industrialist (Jack Lemmon) comes to Italy to bring back the body of his father to Baltimore. Once in Italy, he is confronted to an insane bureaucracy, the sudden discovery that his father was unfaithful and the attractive daughter of his father’s mistress (Juliet Mills). It makes a grown-up entertainment very pleasant and beautifully photographed. The best part (the hotel manager) goes to an outstanding Clive Revill. It is light and funny without cynicism. It is what I saw the first time I watched this movie. I laughed so much I missed the other points.Level 2: Here are compared two cultures, the laid-back attitude of southern Italy in the 70s and the hyper-efficiency of the United States. Mocking gently these two cultures without being offensive is always difficult, it makes of a the movie a tour-de-force. I think it is successful because it is not judgmental.Level 3: Here you get into many small political comments. The State Department is shown a bit as it was, I think, before the fall of the Berlin wall, with a mix of arrogance and ignorance. But it is played in minor, and the first time you might not notice it. As an example, the American side criticizes the justice system in Italy, the Italian side asks about Sacco and Vanzetti. It is just 2 sentences in the film. Another sentence reminds you that Mussolini still had admirers in Italy. The touches are extremely light, they do not interfere with the main theme.Finally there is the genius of Billy Wilder. At one moment, for instance, there are 20 nuns in queue to see the movie « Love Story » You notice it or you don’t, but the movie is more complex and rich than it appears at first sight.I think this is as good as Moliere, Bernard Shaw or Oscar Wilde. This movie is worth studying in art schools.

Review: Top quality transfer to DVD, I always have had good experiences when dealing with Amazon, ie. Supplied by and Shipped by. Unfortunately I have zero faith in the assorted suppliers that Amazon deals with. Amazon stands squarely behind the own merchandise but, not those suppliers who should be set adrift.As for the films with Jack Lemmon, a Leading Man if the ever there was one. Mr. Lemmon has left this world with a bevy of characters, no two the same. Avanti is a treat to be savoured, a mature comedy, Ms. Mills proves she can waltz with the best of them. I would not be surprised to find out that the two actors had more than a few laughs during the filming of this movie.Irma la Douce is a film I first saw more than 40 years ago on TV, it has not lost any of it’s wit. Ms. MacLaine is so talented, and a joy to watch. Mr. Lemmon dazzles us with two characters this time out, the viewer is also in for a treat seeing Lou Jacobi portraying a tour de force bartender.Best of all the price was bang on, keep on Amazon.

Creo que la situación es maravillosa y las interpretaciones son geniales, además tiene el corte de la censura casposa del franquismo restaurado.. y es genial buscar ese momento y ver que es lo que el censor pensó que era malo… cuando toda la pelicula muestra una moral laxa de lo más interesante, atemporal.Una de esas peliculas que demuestran que lo antiguo es antiguo, pero que muchas veces es más adelantado y moderno que lo actual…

Review: 「アヴァンティ」、しゃれていて大好きな映画ですが、国内盤だとジュリエット・ミルズの裸体の「ボカシ」が気になって嫌で、これを買いました。字幕がないのが難点ですが、既に内容は判ってますから、気分良く見ることが出来ます。但し、「ボカシ」なしでも具体的には何も見えませんから、どうして日本ではあのような処理をするのか不可思議です。逆にそちらに気をとられて、邪魔になるだけです。と言う訳で、もし妙な期待をして買うと、がっかりしますよ。念のため。もう一本は「おまけ」だと思ってます。既に持ってましたので。

Review: This is not necessarily the most well-known Jack Lemmon film but it is quintessentially Billy Wilder and Jack Lemmon,with the delightful addition of charming Juliet Mills and the romance of Italy thrown in. With a wonderful soundtrack entirely suited to the film adapted from Italian songs, Avanti is a romantic comedy which puts most romantic comedies in the shade.Yet, while being an entirely romantic comedy, it is also a black comedy in that the whole reason for the romance which emerges is that the couple are on their way to reclaim the bodies of their father (Lemmon) and mother (Mills) who, it turns out, had been lovers in Italy for years.The film in some ways is a series of perfect comedy moments whether it is Juliet Mills’s character pronouncing all the varieties of pasta with their lovely Italian sounds (on the boat on the way to Ischia), or her keeping the band up all night as she – losing her inhibitions – sings and dances to the romantic ‘Senza Fine’ tune, or the shenanigans with the Trotta family (mock-Mafia) who demand an exorbitant sum in compensation for the fact that the father and mother died in a car accident on their land (another black humour set piece), or when the US diplomat arrives by helicopter from Paris only to find the airport official is having his lunch – you don’t interrupt an Italian’s lunchtime!The other actor who must be mentioned is Clive Revill, who does a brilliant job as the Italian all-seeing, all-knowing hotel manager whose role acts as a buffer, a go-between, a mentor, an advisor, who manages everything with Italian-style efficiency and aplomb. His delivery and facial expressions are some of the funniest titbits in the film.I think this is Juliet Mills’s highlight film. Encouraged by Jack Lemmon (who, you can see, nurtures her through the film) and Clive Revill’s consideration, she has obviously responded so well to Wilder’s direction. She is absolutely delightful throughout. Jack Lemmon does what he does best, delivers lines with perfect timing, charms the viewer with his disingenuous naiveté, accentuates his Americanism to contrast with Juliet Mills’s Britishness, and as always, gives a perfect performance.If you ever feel even a little blue, this is the go-to film. You cannot but help feel much better having watched it. I love it so much that I have bought the soundtrack separately so I can play it in the car and when I’m washing up, or just when I’m not in the best mood. I can guarantee I’ll feel fine after listening to it.
