Title: Un Tarantino-like à la sauce british
Review: « Guy Ritchie ne se contente pas de faire du plagiat Tarantinesque bête et méchant, il apporte sa touche perso dans les scènes de beuverie notamment et sa photographie de cul de bouteille colle impeccablement à l’ambiance des sales quartiers Londoniens des 90’s. Dans les choix musicaux c’est aussi ostentatoire et référencé mais avec une variété savoureusement dépareillée qui fait toujours son petit effet. Bref un vaudeville de gangsters ratés savamment agencé avec une touche british délirante qui fait coulisser les choses. »

Title: Aussi bien que Snatch
Review: Sauf erreur de ma part, il me semble qu’il s’agit là du premier long métrage de Guy Ritchie, et quelle réussite! Les personnages sont vraiment géniaux, le scénario met en scène des « bras cassés » totalement dépassés par la situation, bref il y a un peu des frères Cohen dans certains passages (et pour moi c’est un sacré compliment).Le format Blu Ray est bon en termes de qualité d’image et de son.A voir absolument!

Review: Le scénario est très bien ficelé, avec des personnages très typés, une violence qui tourne au délire burlesque, un casting remarquable ou les visages ne s’accordent pas avec le rôle (le visage d’ange est horrible bandit), et le tout est mené a la vitesse d’un TGV. C’est un excellent film pour ceux qui aime les histoires de voyous avec l’humour décalé British.

Review: Guy Ritchie ist zwar weiterhin sehr erfolgreich im Filmgeschäft, seine Sherlock Holmes Filme waren echte Kassenschlager – künstlerisch fand er aber nie wieder so richtig zur alten Stärke seiner früheren Filme « Bube, Dame, König, Gras » und « Snatch » zurück, die zwischen 1998 und 2000 entstanden. Beide Streifen wurden sehr schnell zum Kult, vor allem weil sie so locker, cool und rythmisch perfekt in Szene gesetzt wurden. Im Original heißt der Erstling « Lock, stock und Two Smoking Barrels » und ist ein knallig schillerndes Heist-Movie mit extrem vielen Darstellern, aber keine Angst – die Story ist einfach konzipiert bzw. es ist eine Freude dem komplizierten Geflecht aus dem Gangstermilieu zu folgen und sich einfach im Geschehen treiben zu lassen. Alles fängt mit den vier langjährigen Freunden Bacon (Jason Stratham), Eddy (Nick Moran), Tom (Jason Flemying) und Soap (Dexter Fletcher) an, die fette 100.000 Pfund einsetzen, um bei einem Pokerspiel richtig abzusahnen. Mit Eddy sehen sie auch ne grandiose Chance beim illegalen Pokerspiel vom Mafiaboss Hackebeil Harry Lonsdale (P.J.Moriarty) einzusteigen und dort zu gewinnen. Doch wie naiv kann man sein zu denken, dass es beim Obergangster und dessen rechter Hand Barry the Baptist (Lenny McLean) fair und ohne gezinkte Karten zugeht ? Jedenfalls verliert Eddy alles und hat zusätzlich noch 150.000 Pfund weitere Schulden an der Backe. Innert einer Woche muss er nun das Geld beschaffen. Dazwischen lernt der Zuschauer auch noch Big Chris (Vinnie Jones), dessen Sohn Little Chris (Peter McNichol), den Griechen (Stephen Marcus), einige Kiffer mit sehr viel Geld und noch mehr Gras sowie den durchgeknallsten von allen, den dunkelhäutigen Gangsterboss Rory Breaker (Vas Blackwood) kennen. Und da wären noch eine weitere Gangsterbande, zwei doofe Einbrecher, eine Politesse und zwei wertvolle Gewehre…Dies alles war ausschlaggebend für den Riesenerfolg dieser respektlosen, zynischen, überzeichneten, übertriebenen und brutalen Gangsterfarce, die durchgehend für gute Unterhaltung und viel Lacher (manche bleiben im Hals stecken) sorgt. Mit « Snatch » konnte dann der britische Filmemacher noch einen drauflegen und hatte für kurze Zeit den Ruf ein britischer Tarantino zu sein. Auch heute noch in einer retrospektiven Schaue erweist sich der Film immer noch als erstaunlich modern, obwohl schon längst der Klassikerstatus gebeben ist und somit auch schon viel Retropotential sichtbar wird.

Review: I’ll start off this review by saying that I only just watched it for the first time, last year. I had heard of it years ago and although I had seen Snatch (which I regard as another great movie) years before I first watched this, it was a while before I got round to watching this movie. When I did watch this, it was when I rented it from Lovefilm and I found it so enjoyable that I went ahead and bought a copy of this from here, on amazon.Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels is a London crime movie, directed by Guy Ritchie and released in the year, 1998. The film has several different plots, all of which are interlinked to one-another – some loosely and some strongly. But I won’t divulge into every single storyline, but rather the pivot of the movie.The main protagonists are four men – Eddie, Tom, Soap and Bacon, played by actors, Nick Moran, Jason Flemyng, Dexter Fletcher and Jason Statham, respectively. The four live together and have illegal jobs, which include black market jobs, selling stolen goods. The single exception is Soap, who goes by that name because he doesn’t like to get his hands « dirty » with anything unlawful. The four have spent some time earning money so Eddy, a genius card shark, can play a card game with unlawful businessman, « Hatchet » Harry and earn a lot more money; playing his weekly card games requires at least £100,000 upfront.Being a genius at cards, Eddy has a very high chance of winning. However, aware of these odds, Harry rigs the game so that he will win, and Eddy not only loses, but he also leaves the game with a £500,000 debt, which he and his friends have a week to find! If they fail…well, put it this way, Harry is a man you pay when you owe.I won’t say any more with regards to the plot, due to spoilers. I think that this is an excellent film. It has a lot of excellent characters, including Harry’s bodyguard, Barry the Baptist, who was played by the late Lenny McLean, also known as the Guv’nor, who sadly passed away the very year this film was released. Other great characters include Big Chris (played by Vinnie Jones), the marijuana growers, Winston, Charles and Willie, and my personal favourite, the sociopathic Rory Breaker (played by Vas Blackwood).The film is very fun to watch, not to mention intriguing, what with the plot, the characters, the way the film was put together and the soundtrack it has. This film was very well done. The colouring, the characters, the dialogue, even the soundtrack and of course, the story, gives this film a true London crime feel. But what I like most about this film is the dialogue, which delivers a lot of humour to the film. I won’t deny that there are many quotes that I like. These lines are among my favourites. »Shotguns? What, like guns that fire shots? » »Oh, you must be the brains here. That’s right. Guns that fire shots. »Overall, I’d say that Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels is a classic British movie and is definitely one that is not to be missed.
